Rockstar has revealed more details about the relationship between GTA 6’s two main characters, Jason and Lucia.
During a recent interview with IGN, Rockstar North co-director Rob Nelson explained that their relationship will be an important part of the story. Jason and Lucia can be presented as both partners in crime and a couple, although players will have some freedom in deciding how their relationship develops.
Rockstar has also confirmed that the game will include a dedicated relationship system. Players can strengthen Jason and Lucia’s bond by spending time together and taking part in activities such as kayaking, mini golf and other things around Leonida. Working together during criminal activities can also improve their relationship.
Interestingly, players aren’t required to make them romantically involved. Rockstar wants the relationship to be something players can engage with or largely ignore depending on how they want to experience the story.
Their relationship will not provide a specific gameplay advantage either. Regardless of how close they become, Jason and Lucia will continue working together and supporting each other.
However, the way players develop their relationship can influence how their story unfolds. Rockstar says this is one of the reasons the studio wanted to explore this type of narrative, as it gives players more control over the personal side of the characters.
The game will also include mature relationship themes. Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 is intended for a mature audience, although the exact implementation of these elements has not been fully explained.
The relationship between Jason and Lucia has already been compared to famous fictional and real-life criminal duos, leading to plenty of speculation about whether their partnership will survive the events of the story.
Rockstar is keeping the biggest story details secret for now, so we’ll have to wait until launch to see exactly how their relationship develops.
GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
