GTA 6 Will Let Players Rob Almost Anything, Rockstar Says

Robbery is shaping up to be a major part of GTA 6’s gameplay loop, and Rockstar appears to be giving players much more freedom when it comes to choosing their targets.

During an interview with IGN, Rockstar North co-director Rob Nelson showed a 30-minute demo of GTA 6 and discussed how the game’s world can be used for criminal activities. According to Nelson, players will be able to rob almost anything they come across.

He gave a simple example of walking into a store selling headphones and deciding to rob it. However, smaller stores aren’t the only potential targets. Rockstar also showed a system featuring dedicated “robbery targets” that players can choose from to make money.

These activities can apparently be carried out with Jason and Lucia together or separately, giving players more freedom in how they approach their criminal activities.

What’s particularly interesting is that not every opportunity has to be planned in advance. Nelson described a situation where he was heading toward a store, bank or loan business to commit a robbery, but Jason noticed a police impound lot filled with confiscated vehicles along the way.

That kind of spontaneous opportunity could make free-roaming crime much more dynamic than in previous Rockstar games.

While GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 allowed players to rob smaller businesses, major robberies were generally tied to scripted missions. GTA 6 appears to be taking things further by allowing players to discover and pursue larger targets during normal exploration.

The game is also expected to feature a significantly more advanced wanted and pursuit system, which could make these robberies much more dangerous.

GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
