Rockstar has officially added GTA VI’s ESRB rating to the game’s store pages, confirming that the title has received an M for Mature rating. In Europe, the game has also been rated PEGI 18.
According to the ESRB, GTA VI will include blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and the use of drugs and alcohol. None of this is particularly surprising for a Grand Theft Auto game, but it does confirm that Rockstar is not holding back when it comes to mature content.
The ESRB has not yet published its full rating summary. Those descriptions usually include examples of specific scenes and gameplay elements, meaning we could eventually learn more about the game’s story, violence, and sexual content. One of the topics fans have been discussing is how far Rockstar will go with the relationship between Jason and Lucia.
Sexual content has appeared throughout the series before. GTA: San Andreas famously caused controversy because of the hidden “Hot Coffee” mini-game, while GTA IV and GTA V allowed players to interact with sex workers. For GTA VI, strip clubs have already been confirmed, although the exact extent of the game’s sexual content remains unknown.
The rating also mentions “in-game purchases.” Rockstar previously stated that the base game would not feature microtransactions, so this could refer to edition upgrades or additional content. The company has still not fully revealed GTA VI’s online mode, which is not currently expected to launch alongside the main game. Rumors suggest the online component could arrive sometime in 2027.
Rockstar is also increasing its marketing efforts ahead of release, including promotional material in Miami, influencer packages, and a $400 collector’s set that attracted criticism because it does not include a copy of the game itself.
Overall, the new rating does not bring any major surprises, but it gives us the clearest official confirmation yet of just how mature GTA VI’s content will be.
